New Year’s Day – sooner than you think

UPDATE:

Nippy Race, Tacky Trophy Exchange, and

Warming Chili Potluck

Saturday, January ONE, 2011

Pt. San Pablo Yacht Club (www.pspyc.org)

700 West Cutting Blvd, Pt. Richmond, (510) 233-1046

Cap’n. Skip Henderson plans to have AIDA serve as Race Committee boat once again.  Patty Henderson and Dean Gurke will help orchestrate the on land aspects of the tacky trophy awards party and chili potluck.

1100 START TIME:  The starting line will be off Clipper Cove east of Treasure Island (our May regatta finish line area), and the course will be to head from the start to the Richmond Channel and then on to Pt. San Pablo Yacht Club.  VHF communications will tentatively use the same channel as last year, CH. 71.  If you arrive at 1100 and do not see the schooner AIDA on site, just begin your race and head to the club.  There will be a very strong ebb that day, so if you are lagging turn your engine on and try to get close to Richmond by 1300 to get to the potluck and warm up with some HOT chili and the company of good friends to hear their latest yarns.  If you play a musical instrument, don’t be shy about bringing it along – just don’t try to break any glass with a high pitched shriek posing as singing.

Per Skip:  “All yachts are required to note their finish times precisely.  Lying and cheating are discouraged…inventive excuses may be considered.  All racing efforts are to cease and desist by 1400 hours.”

As January 1st falls on a Saturday this year, you may want to stay overnight rather than have a rushed sail home before dark.  Please send an RSVP email to either Patty (seaharpy@hotmail.com) or Dean (deangurke@gmail.com) for your vessel.

          Marconis     bring chili

          Gaffs           bring salad

Clean out your bilges and remember to bring your tacky trophies to present to participants!  We will also hear a short update from the Sea Scouts that were sponsored by our Foundation to race at the 2010 “William Koch International Sea Scout Cup.”

The same seriousness and pomp that is prevalent at the Chicken Ship Regatta reigns at this event, minus the feathers and associated farm instruments.  This is a great opportunity to break in our new members (no, we don’t mean “haze”) so it’s hoped they’ll all get a good night’s sleep NY’s Eve and will be fit and ready to attend.   Use this race at the start of the New Year to wake you from your sugar-coated, tryptophan-addled winter comas.  Brace yourselves

Start the new year right, GO SAILING!
